THE FAMILY KASKENS.

The relationship between the family and Kaskens Diemen is not one of today or yesterday. Circa 1860 drew Kaskens Jacob, coming from Oostzaan, located in Diemen. His original appeal was holder cabinet, which means that he visited the farms in the region with exceptional merchandise including jewelry and gemstones. Eventually he settled in the eighties of the last century in a little building to the shopping Ouderkerkerlaan house next to the bridge keeper. Here he drove a textiles and goldsmith shop. The case would later move to a larger shop premises at the old Princess Hendrikkade.


In 1887, Jacob Kaskens co-founder of the Skating Club Diemer. On September 20, 1890 he was nominated by the council, by the King's Commissioner in the province of Noord-Holland appointed for Maker 's Rijks direct taxes ‎(principal officer in arranging the attack of a tax)‎. On October 2 of that same year he made the above oath. He held this office ten years, until 1900.

Councilor Jacob Kaskens was from September 1, 1891. On February 26, 1897, he was even "the Council of the Municipality Diemen 'to appointed alderman. In the "Deed of Appointment of Alderman" his name is also misspelled as "Kaskes.
Long has he can not perform this function, for he died in 1898.

His son Peter born in 1868, Piet callsign, continued his father's factory-cum jewelery on. Yet the profession of broker attracted him more. On October 8, 1903 was the 'Public Meeting of the Council of the Municipality Diemen' issued a decree allowing Kaskens Piet as movable property broker was appointed. In fact he was in real estate broker, but that term was not legally defined. Piet started so the estate in the family tradition. The old business from his father the Prince Hendrikkade in 1903 to AAB Woort sold.

Over the years, his broker at various places on the Hartveldseweg established. Older Diemen Aren still remember that Kaskens family lived above the Swiss Hotel. Address book from 1918 mentions that P. Kaskens had a broker to Hartveldseweg a 108. Converted into today's parcel numbering is the property Hartveldseweg 34, next to cafe Mell. He then moved to Hartveldseweg 9 'above the shop of the
Baars widow. Witness this ad from 1932 we know that we could also go to Kaskens for insurance underwriting:

The broadening of the Hartveldseweg was in the 1938 block of houses and shops demolished. The wife and children of the now deceased Peter Kaskens then moved to the Hartveldseweg 26 ", top butcher P. Vedder, in the so-called white block.

Piet Kaskens Sr. was closely linked to the social life in Diemen. So he was another member of the Commission for the Prevention of absenteeism from 1901 to 1916 and from 1922 to 1930, and member of the committee honoring the occasion of the celebration of Father Vermeulen priest in 1907. Also in 1909 he was member of the party committee to celebrate the birth of Princess Juliana.
As co-founder of the housing association founded in 1914 ge ¬ Diemen Vooruit great services he rendered to alleviate the housing problem for less well-off ¬ der. Furthermore in 1918 he was chairman of the R.K. ¬ went kiesvereni, secretary of the Association of Agriculture and he made some years a member of the commission children's parties.

Born in 1897 Arnoldus Jacobus Henricus ‎(Henk)‎ Kaskens was the eldest son of Pierre Kaskens Sr. He was the third generation Diem Ense. Like his father he practiced, initially together with his brother Peter, several years in the profession of broker. Moreover he set the old case of his father, she now specializes as a watchmaker. He had a shop on the Hartveldseweg 3, near the opklapbrug. This building had to depart in 1938 for the widening of the Hartveldseweg. Together with its sister To, Henk was also owner of the swimming and the Sun ¬ nebad Diemer Plas. The beautiful swimming pool, all to his own design built, had a roof terrace overlooking the polders and Diemer Honor ¬ st and Second Diem. It was opened May 18, 1934. Even English students covered the engineering design for their final exams. Finally Henk was Councilor for the then ¬ former Catholic People's Party ‎(KVP)‎.

The significance of the Diemen To born in 1898 ‎(Mary Catherine MacKenzie)‎, daughter of Pierre Kaskens Sr., should also be mentioned.

She was a bookkeeper at the Cooperative Association Our Advantage ‎(better known as the Farmers)‎ and filled many positions with various social and cultural institutions in Diemen, especially in the Commission Kin ¬ derfeesten.

Jacobus Johannes canutus, Jac in the walk, and was born in 1901 another son of Peter Sr. Kaskens In 1934 he became manager of the swimming pool of his brother Henk Diemer. Over the years more than 1000 registered Jac's swimming certificate. He was co-organizer of swimming and water polo tournaments for players from the district of Amsterdam. The next son of Peter Sr. was Kaskens Petrus Johannes Wilhelm ‎(born 1907)‎ Piet with the callsign. In the 30s he was an active member of the R.K. Vocal choir and Friendship. After the death of his father Peter Jr. and his brother Henk ¬ makelaarskan the office continued. Around 1938 they parted ways. Peter Jr. allegedly established itself as an independent broker, initially at the old address Hartveldseweg 34.
Having to be married in September 1939, he moved first to the Hartveldseweg 69 and in 1942 to number 68.

By order of the German occupation was in December 1943 the section from the quay to the Diemer January Bert Street demolished to be more of fire screaming ¬ gen. The Hartveldseweg, once the shopping promenade ¬ ¬ denstanders mid Diemen where many were located, was now a large part of the past. Because the forced evacuation involved a house at the Peter Jr. Ouddiemerlaan 84.

One of Peter Jr. 's first post-war activities was the publication of the magazine Woningruil News in 1945. It was the largest home exchange newspaper in the Netherlands. In 1946 the estate agent again moved, this time to a larger building at the Ouddiemerlaan 24.
In 1952 came the old office again in a familiar environment, namely the Hartveldseweg 37. In this building, the brokerage of Piet Kaskens Jr. and his son Carel established over 39 years remain.

Petrus Johannes Nicolaas ‎(born 1912)‎ was the youngest son of Pierre Kaskens Sr. He was shopkeeper.
He led an electro-technical office with a shop in the so-called white block "to the Hartveldseweg. There were radios and other electrical equipment sold. In later years the case was moved to the Mayor Bicker ¬ street.

Born in 1942 Gerardus Carolus ‎(Carel)‎ Kaskens is the son of the ven ¬ hierbo Piet Kaskens Jr. said he is representing the fourth generation of the family in Diemen.
When he came almost naturally as a broker in the footsteps of his father. He also settled the Hartveldseweg 37. When Carel started in 1984 with the release of Living News Kaskens he set an old tradition, started by his father, continued. The office of the Hartveldseweg 37 was ultimately too small. By moving to the town hall was completely modernized an acute space problem. The office of the "Boulevard Hartveld ¬ seweg" was on August 6, 1991 into operation.
Since the building is too large for the real estate agent, some rooms as representative office for hire. At the initiative of Carel Kaskens was this beautiful historic building back to its former glory.
